THE HOUSE

Our house is in the small town of Oiso, Kanagawa, Japan, about an hour and a half from Tokyo, and less than an hour from other locations such as Hakone, Kamakura, Yokohama. It is nestled between the sea and the mountains, and you can enjoy the beach as well as the amazing views of Mount Fuji. 

22 years ago, Masami, the father of the family, designed and built Epinard, with the help of friends and family. Epinard was created from the ruins of an abandoned building, and from used shipping containers. The house recreates the shape of a boat, and every part of it is inspired by different styles. Its design is a metaphor for how Epinard will move and inspire you, like a ship carried by the wind, where different passengers cross paths together, even for just a brief moment in our respective lives.

With Masami’s skills as an interior designer, the inside of Epinard is filled with unique and thoughtful touches. Be surprised by what you find in every corner of the house, from a dedicated music room, to the family’s two turtles and goat, to inspiring artwork hidden around the house.
